Bayern Munich is reportedly considering a move for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele if they fail to sign Leroy Sane.

The attacking department of the Bayern Munich squad needs quality additions this summer. The departures of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery have created massive voids in the team’s attacking options for next season. Die Roten will need at least one world class forward to offset the departure of these two veteran wingers.

Bayern has been heavily linked with Leroy Sane but the deal for signing the German winger is complicated. The club has been reportedly looking at other alternatives in case they fail to conclude a transfer for the Manchester City winger.

Ousmane Dembele is the latest player that is being considered as the fallback option for Sane. According to SportBild, Bayern Munich will consider approaching Barcelona for the French winger if Sane decides to stay in the Premier League. The Bundesliga champions will have to pay a huge fee for Dembele as his current contract with Barcelona expires in 2022.

More from Bayern Strikes

This report insists that Karl-Heinz Rummenigge is a huge fan of the French winger.  Bayern tried to sign Dembele in 2016 but the Frenchman decided to join Borussia Dortmund in order to get regular playing time. He became the most expensive Bundesliga departure in 2017 when Barcelona paid a fee in excess of €100 million for him.

Dembele has endured a difficult time at the Spanish club. The French world cup winner has regularly struggled with injuries and form during his two seasons in the La Liga. Dembele still remains one of the most deadly wide players in the world. His productivity in the final third was impressive at Dortmund and he is likely to improve those numbers if he is able to get rid of these constant injuries.

There is no doubt that Dembele will take Bayern’s attack to a different level. His ambidexterity allows him to be equally effective on both flanks. The major concern for Bayern regarding Dembele will be his disciplinary issues at Barcelona. There have been numerous reports in Spain suggesting that Dembele lacks discipline off the pitch.

Barcelona has been heavily linked with Antoine Griezmann and Neymar Jr in this summer transfer window. Dembele could be on his way out if the Catalan club is able to sign these two forwards. Bayern will have to fork out a huge transfer fee if they are genuinely interested in the French winger. The French winger will be a good addition to Bayern’s squad but it is still a fairly complicated transfer.
