Future Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard hopes his teammate from the France national team, Lucas Hernandez, will join the club as well in the summer.

Over the past few days, rumors surrounding Bayern Munich’s summer transfer plans have grown increasingly strong. Uli Hoeness recently confirmed his club already has a few deals in place for the summer, hinting once again that the Bavarians will be spending big in 2019. Hoeness even mentioned Atletico Madrid defender Lucas Hernandez, who is reportedly one of Bayern’s prime targets for the summer.

Bayern have already secured the signing of Benjamin Pavard, who will join this summer from VfB Stuttfart. Speaking to Sport Bild, Pavard gave his opinion on the rumors linking Die Roten with his fellow France international. The Stuttgart defender believes Hernandez would be a perfect fit for Bayern, and he admitted that he would like to play with the Atletico Madrid defender at club level next season.

"“We are very good friends and I think it would be fantastic if Lucas also came to Bayern.“He proved that he is a great player. First together for France, then for Bavaria – that would make me proud. But of course, that’s a matter between Bayern and Lucas.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten have reportedly already agreed terms with Hernandez for a summer transfer after missing out on him in January. Hasan Salihamidzic tried to bring him in over the winter break, but Atletico Madrid did not want to lose an important player midway through the season. Bayern respected the wish of the Spanish side, which could help them sign Lucas for a bit less than his €80 million release clause in the summer window.

Pavard and Hernandez have both established themselves as key players for France by delivering consistent performances during the World Cup last summer. The French duo didn’t play in their primary positions (each featuring primarily as a full-back), but that hardly affected the quality of their performances. Pavard has been impressive in the last two Bundesliga seasons, while Hernandez has become a vital cog in Diego Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

The French duo are among the best young defenders in Europe. They are going to get even better with time, as they are still far away from the prime years of their career. Bayern Munich will not have to worry about their defense for years to come if they secure the signing of Hernandez. Along with Niklas Sule, Pavard and Hernandez can provide a solid platform for Bayern to consistently win trophies for the next several seasons.

Bayern Munich had a spine of World Cup winners in their last cycle of sustained success. They are trying to use the same formula this time around as they are stockpiling French talent. Die Roten are in a great position to break the bank for such type of talents, and it wouldn’t be surprising for the Bavarians to pursue even more French internationals.
