Callum Hudson-Odoi is perfect for Bayern Munich says Lothar Matthaus
Former Germany international and Bayern Munich legend Lothar Matthaus believes that Callum Hudson-Odoi would be perfect for the Bavarians.
Bayern Munich officially announced the signing of Benjamin Pavard on Wednesday. The club also publicly admitted their interest in signing Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea. The Bavarians are eager to sign the English teenager this month, wanting to improve their attacking options for the second half of the season.
The signing of Hudson-Odoi would satisfy the short and long term goals for Bayern. In his weekly column for Sky Germany, Lothar Matthaus claimed Hudson-Odoi would be a fantastic addition to Die Roten. Matthaus believes Hudson-Odoi has a similar level of potential to Borussia Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho.
"“I saw him at the FA Cup game against Nottingham Forrest, where he created both goals and played on both wings. Even in England’s junior teams, I have already watched him.“[He is] a great talent, reminiscent of Sancho at BVB. [He is] fast, a strong dribbler, has a good eye and a good finish. I can well imagine that this would be a great reinforcement for Bayern.”"

Bayern Munich have made four bids for the 18-year-old winger in this transfer window. The latest bid from the German champions is the closest to Chelsea’s evaluation. Hudson-Odoi is also keen on joining Bayern, as he is likely to get more minutes in Germany thanks to the impending exits of Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery at the end of the season.
The Bavarians will have four young wide players at the end of this month if they close the deal for Hudson-Odoi. Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry have already shown their worth in the Bayern shirt. Alphonso Davies could make his debut for Bayern as early as next week now that his transfer from Vancouver Whitecaps has been completed. These young players are flexible and have the potential to become stars in Munich.
The record German champions are reportedly skeptical about making the transfer of James Rodriguez permanent in the summer window. The Colombian has recently been heavily linked with a move to Juventus.
Furthemore, the chances of Sandro Wagner staying in Bavaria beyond this summer are slim. These two departures would leave Bayern with only two experienced players in attack. Robert Lewandowski will be the first choice for the striker role, while Thomas Muller can play in multiple positions across the front line.
The Germans might try to secure one more attacking player to play behind Lewandowski and provide competition to Muller, should they opt out of buying James. There is unlikely to be any more additions in the wide areas, though, unless another great opportunity arrives in the summer window. Hudson-Odoi is an immensely talented player, but he still has much room for improvement. Still, he would immediately add to Bayern’s squad and boost their chances of success across multiple competitions this season.
