Chelsea are playing hard ball, but Callum Hudson-Odoi has made clear he wants a move to German champions Bayern Munich to go through.

Bayern Munich have been heavily linked with 18-year-old Chelsea winger Callum Hudson-Odoi in the past few weeks. The Bavarians are reportedly eager to sign the youngster this month and could spend almost €40 million to make the move official.

There is only one obstacle standing between Bayern and their hopeful signing: his current club. Chelsea are by no means eager to offload Hudson-Odoi. The Blues are actually hopeful they can convince their player to commit his future to the club.

Hudson-Odoi’s current contract expires next summer, though, so Chelsea are running out of opportunities to cash in on the hot prospect, who has remained wary of signing a new deal.

More from Bayern Strikes

Chelsea may not want to let their player go, but he has made clear he has no intention to stay in London. According to Sky Sport, Hudson-Odoi has informed Chelsea sporting director Marina Granovskaia that he sees his future in Munich.

Sports editor of The Independent Ed Malyon has also confirmed that Hudson-Odoi wants a move to Bayern Munich. The player likes what the Bavarians are offering him and no doubt perceives he will find greater long-term success in Munich than in London.

€30 million-plus is a hefty sum for an 18-year-old with little first team experience, but there are many factors playing into this deal. For starters, the European transfer market is insanely inflated. It is normal for young talents to be sold for eight-figure fees. Furhtermore, Bayern’s missing out on Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho serves as a motivation for them to not miss out on yet another hot prospect, no matter the price tag.

Chelsea, meanwhile, want a heavy sum for Hudson-Odoi to regain some of what they paid for Christian Pulisic. On the flip side, however, the American’s future transfer will do the Blues no favors in their endeavor to keep Hudson-Odoi at the club.

Bayern will no doubt have to pay a hefty fee if they want to sign their player. It’s a big risk, but it’s one the Bavarians might deem necessary as they plan for a future without legends Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery storming down the flanks week after week.
