Due to Financial Fair Play restrictions, Bayern Munich midfielder Sebastian Rudy is unlikely to join RB Leipzig before the end of the summer transfer window.

Sebastian Rudy has been subject to much speculation in the past couple of weeks. The German midfielder reportedly wants to leave Bayern Munich as he held talks with RB Leipzig last weekend. Bayern are also ready to sell the midfielder as they have too many players in the midfield department. The Bavarians are reluctant to sell the player in a cut-price deal, though.

According to a report in Kicker, RB Leipzig have ended their interest in Sebastian Rudy. Leipzig have baulked at the €20 million transfer fee demanded by the German Champions. They are currently working within Financial Fair Play regulations, so this transfer fee might put them in trouble.

RB Leipzig reportedly also made a loan offer, but Bayern rejected it quickly. The Red Bulls have pulled plug on this transfer, instead focusing on signing Ademola Lookman from Everton.

Rudy has also been linked with a move to Napoli and Schalke in this transfer window. A move to Napoli is not an option right now, as the Italian transfer window came to an end last week.

Schalke still remain the most favorable destination for the German midfielder. The Bundesliga runners-up have remained tight-lipped regarding a move for the former Hoffenheim midfielder.

Lothar Matthaus recently urged his former club to keep Rudy at Bayern Munich as there will be only one pure holding midfielder in the squad after his departure. Niko Kovac, however, has confirmed that Rudy can leave if he desires. The Croatian manager wants to work with a smaller squad, and he believes Thiago Alcantara and Corentin Tolisso can also play in the holding midfield position.

Bayern Munich are trying to trim their large squad to raise funds for next summer. Uli Hoeness revealed in an interview that the club will spend big next year if necessary.

Rudy was not inlcuded in Bayern’s squad for their first two competitive games of the season. He is unlikely to feature in the Bundeslia’s opening game against his former club either. If they sell him, Bayern will earn a profit on Rudy as he joined on a free transfer from Hoffenheim last summer. The German Champions might eventually reach an agreement with RB Leipzig for a loan deal with an obligation to buy next summer, but a move elsewhere is more likely for the player.
