According to Christian Falk, Bayern Munich have no plans to make any star signings in the upcoming summer transfer window.

It was an up and down season for Bayern Munich. After enduring one of their worst starts to a campaign in recent memory, the club parted ways with manager Carlo Ancelotti. Rather than immediately bringing in a young, long-term replacement for the Italian, the board opted to have Jupp Heynckes return on an interim basis.

Heynckes was able to steady the Bavarian ship, leading Bayern to their sixth consecutive Bundesliga title. He also led his team to the semi-finals of the Champions League and final of the DFB Pokal, but his squad ultimately disappointed in both competitions.

With Niko Kovac taking over as club manager this summer, many assumed some big transfers could be on their way to Munich. However, it appears that may not be the case. According to SportBild chief Christian Falk, Niko Kovac met with Bayern officials last week. During the meeting, they determined that the club needs no new star signings.

This is a huge blow for many Bayern Munich fans who recognized the need for some extra firepower in attack. Falk has a great history of reliability when it comes to Bayern news, so there’s definitely some validity to the report.

More from Bayern Strikes

But this doesn’t destroy all hope for Bayern fans. The tweet doesn’t rule out any new signings. It simply denies the club’s interest in any “stars.” This isn’t exactly news either, as Uli Hoeness has previously denied that his club would be spending big this summer.

Even so, plans change, and Bayern have a fantastic history of making smart signings. There’s still hope.

To put it in perspective, Hoeness gave similarly discouraging messages this time last year, only for die Roten to make a shock move for James Rodriguez once the transfer window actually opened.

The Colmbian proved to be one of the deals of the summer, and was arguably Bayern’s best player this season.

So take this report with a grain of salt. Bayern Munich may not have any star signings planned, but that doesn’t mean the club will remain stagnant in the transfer market. Some reinforcements in defense are almost certain, and a new signing in attack wouldn’t be too surprising.

There’s also the issue of Robert Lewandowski, whose agent recently confirmed wants a move away from Munich. Though Rummenigge and co. have consistently affirmed Lewandowski will stay at Bayern next season, there’s still certainly a possibility for a big move for the Pole.

If Bayern do sell him it will have to be for an astounding price. And if they get their money, expect them to use it on an adequate replacement — whether that be someone young with potential (Timo Werner, please) or an experienced star.
