Surprise, surprise. Champions League match-winner Gareth Bale — unhappy at Real Madrid — is reportedly open to a move to Bayern Munich.

Bayern Munich have been lightheartedly linked with Gareth Bale on several occasions throughout the past few months. Although a move for the Welshman hasn’t really been seen as a realistic possibility in the past, recent reports suggest the player would be open to a move to the Bavarian capital.

Bale was the star man in this past weekend’s Champions League final. After scoring arguably the greatest goal in the history of Champions League finals, Bale secured his team’s victory with a second goal about 20 minutes later.

His goals are only half the talking points, however. Bale’s comments after the match are what really startled the press. The star forward spoke very candidly with BT Sport in his post-match interview, confirming his unhappiness with his current situation at Real Madrid.

"“I need to be playing week in and week out and that hasn’t happened this season for one reason or another. I had about a five or six week injury at the start of the season and I’ve been fit ever since.“I have to sit down in the summer and discuss it with my agent and take it from there.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

It’s rare for a player to speak so openly with the press about his future. It’s even more shocking, though, that Bale did so just after winning his side such an important match. He made it quite clear: either he becomes a mainstay in Zidane’s starting XI or he finds a new club for next season.

This is where Bayern Munich come in. Die Roten have long been rumored to have an interest in Bale, but it’s always been seen as a long-shot. However, thanks to the Welshman’s recent comments, a move that once seemed ridiculous might now be a real possibility.

According to a report from Christian Falk — SportBild’s chief of football and arguably the most reliable source for Bayern news — Bale could be open to a move to Munich. Just a few months ago the player said it was “an honor” to be linked with a move to the Bavarian giants. Not long after, his agent opened an office in Munich. Now he’s confirming that a move out of Madrid could very well happen this summer.

There’s a slight problem, though: his pricetag. It’s hard to imagine the Bayern board spending the nearly €100 million it would cost to sign Bale. This is especially true since he’s on the verge of turning 29-years-old and has a history of being injury prone.

Nevertheless, Bayern Munich need a forward who can propel them to European success. They need a player who will step up during the biggest games and score important goals, something Bale has done on several occasions in the past.

For the right price, Bale would be an excellent signing for Bayern Munich. He’d be a world class addition to their forward line, capable of playing in several different formations and thriving in various tactical set-ups. If the Bavarians can secure him for a reasonable price, they should absolutely go after Gareth Bale.
