Bayern Munich CEO Karl-Heinz Rummenigge reaffirms the club’s intentions to keep Robert Lewandowski for next season.

For the past few months there has been much speculation around the future of Robert Lewandowski. The Polish superstar switched agents a few months back, fueling the fire of rumors linking him with a move away from Bayern Munich.

Matters were made worse when Lewandowski failed to deliver on the big occasion against Real Madrid. The Pole angered many fans with his disappearance in Bayern’s two matches against the Spanish giants.

This past weekend he further alienated himself from the Bayern faithful with his gesture of disrespect to Jupp Heynckes. As Lewandowski was brought off the pitch against Koln over the weekend, he refused to accept a congratulatory handshake from his manager, instead sulking his way to the bench.

Despite the apparent turmoil Lewandowski has caused Bayern in recent weeks and months, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has always remained adamant that he will still be playing with the club next season. Speaking recently with Sportbild, Kalle confirmed this once again.

"“There is no need to worry about Robert Lewandowski and his relationship with Bayern. We have a very good one.“We know what we have in him, and I am happy that we still have a long term contract.“There is no need to worry. He will play at Bayern again next season.”"

More from Bayern Strikes

Rummenigge’s quotes seem to suggest that he’s sure of Lewandowski’s future. After all, the Pole is inarguably one of the best strikers in the world. Surely it’d be a foolish for Bayern to let him go?

At face value, yes. If Lewandowski was completely committed to Bayern and happy in Munich, then the club would be out of their minds to let him go. But that doesn’t seem to be the case.

By all accounts, Lewandowski looks all too ready to head on to greener pastures. That may very well not be the case, but there’s not much to suggest Lewandowski is entirely satisfied at Bayern Munich.

If that’s the case, the board must decide whether it’s better to keep Lewandowski and force him to see out his contract at the club against his will, or allow him to leave and collect a hefty sum from one of Europe’s other top clubs.

Either way, the board definitely has their work cut out for them. Regardless of their decision, it’s important they turn their attention to the transfer market in the summer and look to bolster Bayern’s attack.

Next: Paulo Dybala would be a great signing for Bayern Munich

And who knows, maybe a big name signing like Paulo Dybala would be enough to convince Lewandowski to stay and see out his career in Bavaria. After all, he won’t find teammates more sacrificial than the ones he has at Bayern.
