Bayern Munich’s CEO claims the club hierarchy has met with Carlo Ancelotti and nailed down their summer transfer targets.

This past weekend, Bayern Munich ended their 2016-17 Bundesliga campaign as champions for a record fifth-consecutive season. While this accomplishment is a new record and an amazing feat, it is not enough to overshadow the relatively disappointing season Die Roten suffered.

More from Bayern Strikes

An early exit in both the Champions League and the DFB Pokal are not the results many expected from Carlo Ancelotti when he joined the club last summer. The Italian manager was brought in for one specific reason: European success.

He came as a replacement for Pep Guardiola, who never managed to lead Bayern past the Champions League semi-finals. However, in his first year in Munich Ancelotti has done worse than Pep did in any of his seasons.

If his struggles weren’t bad enough already, Ancelotti must now adapt his team to function without the retiring Xabi Alonso and Philipp Lahm (both integral parts of Ancelotti’s system).

Furthermore, Bayern Munch must soon find replacements for Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery–both of whom are on the wrong side of 30.

Bayern have already signed Hoffenheim duo Sebastian Rudy and Niklas Sulë. But they can’t stop there. The Bavarians still have some significant work to do in reinforcing their squad and preparing for the future.

As is often the way with Bayern, the club has wasted no time in beginning their plans for next season. Per a report from Goal.com, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has suggested that the club is well-prepared for the summer transfer window.

"“We’ve already discussed the transfer policy with Carlo and the board and decided on targets.“Next season we’ll have a team that’s more than capable of challenging for titles again.”"

There are several players who Bayern could bring in to strengthen their squad for the upcoming year, but the odds on favorite to be playing in Munich next year is Arsenal’s Alexis Sanchez. However, Rummenigge specifically mentioned that the club had discussed many targets, not just one more target.

Beside Sanchez, several others–including PSG’s Marco Verratti and Schalke’s Leon Goretzka–have been linked with Bayern in recent weeks. There are several directions in which the club could head this summer. One thing is certain though: they must do something. Expect to see a significantly different Bayern Munich next season than the team we saw this past season.
