With the summer transfer market coming up, Bayern Munich have been linked with several different names. However, one man has been linked with the German giants more often than any other.

Transfer rumors have almost taken over modern soccer journalism. Every week a new player is linked with your favorite club, then that rumor dies and is immediately replaced with another.

This is no different for Germany’s biggest club, Bayern Munich. The Bavarians are constantly linked with high-profile players. This is only multiplied by the fact that Bayern have had such a disappointing season this year.

But “where there’s smoke, there’s fire” says the old proverb, and there is certainly some smoke rising in the rumor mill. The source of the smoke? Arsenal’s hard-working forward, Alexis Sanchez. The Chilean is linked with Bayern on a weekly basis, and it seems only a matter of time before the club officially announces his signature.

Below, I examine four reasons why it makes sense for Alexis Sanchez to join Bayern Munich.

1) His style of play fits perfectly with Bayern Munich’s

Sanchez is a hard-working, energetic player, whose speed, dribbling, and passing make him an immediate threat for any defender. Consider too that Sanchez is an excellent finisher, and it is easy to understand why he is such a menace for defenders to face.

Sanchez is a direct player. He only has one thing in mind when he receives the ball: create a goal. After all, that is the entire purpose of the game.

This clip gives a wonderful example of Sanchez’s directness, dribbling, pace, and finishing. Particularly the final two goals, which really show how great a talent Alexis is:

In recent seasons, Bayern have turned from a direct, attacking style of play to a more possession-based style. Under Carlo Ancelotti, Bayern’s play has become rather stale. They need a player to help bring back that direct playstyle, and Sanchez is the perfect man for that job.

2) He would immediately improve the squad and could fill multiple needs

Sanchez is not only a phenomenal talent on the wings, but also at striker. He can play anywhere on the offensive end of the pitch and do well.

More from Bayern Strikes

Coincidentally, Bayern Munich not only need a player who can take the reins from the aging “Robbery” duo, but also need someone to fill in for Robert Lewandowski should the need arise.

Sanchez has featured as a striker for the majority of his appearances at Arsenal this season. In his 31 Premier League appearances, Sanchez has scored 19 goals himself and assisted 9 more. That makes him third in both goals and assists for the Premier League this season, a highly impressive feat that should not be overlooked (see WhoScored.com).

In a struggling Arsenal side, Alexis Sanchez has been the standout player by a country mile. Which brings me to my third reason…

3) Alexis needs to leave Arsenal if he hopes to win titles

As “disappointing” as Bayern Munich’s season has been, there is no fan of Die Roten who would trade places with Arsenal fans.

The London-based club is in a time of crisis. The fan-base is divided between “Wenger Out” and “Winger In” and the club is unlikely to even make the Champions League this season. Many fans are now even calling for Sanchez (their undisputed best player) to be sold.

It is clear that it is time for Alexis to move on. His talents are best suited elsewhere and would certainly be appreciated in Munich.

His addition would greatly increase Bayern Munich’s chance of winning the Champions League and would give Sanchez an actual chance to do so.

4) Arturo Vidal

This may not seem like the most credible of reasons, but do not discount the power of friendship. Vidal and Sanchez are both Chilean and play together excellently for their national team.

Their partnership led Chile to Copa America titles in both 2015 and 2016, and has helped Chile make a formidable name for themselves in world soccer.

If Sanchez were to come to Munich, then he would immediately have a friend to help integrate him into the club. He and Vidal would have the perfect opportunity to expand their excellent partnership from their national team to their domestic club.

On top of that, there are several Spanish speakers at Bayern who would also help smooth his transition. He would have no shortage of friendship at the club.
