Bayern Munich is reportedly pondering a move for RB Leipzig full-back.

The summer transfer window was expected to be clouded with transfer saga involving Leroy Sane. However, Bayern Munich moved quickly to seal Sane’s signing. At the moment, it looks like the club’s quest to sign right-back will grab headlines throughout the summer.

A new name has emerged for Die Roten regarding this position. According to Sky Sport, Bayern is showing interest in RB Leipzig’s Nordi Mukiele. This report insists that the German Champions have already contacted the entourage of French full-back. Sky does insist that Leipzig is in no mood to sanction Mukiele’s departure.

Mukiele currently has three years left on his contract at Leipzig. This will further complicate a transfer to Bavaria since Leipzig has the leverage to reject bids for the French defender or demand an obscene fee. Mukiele has mainly featured as a right-back for Julian Nagelsmann’s side, but he can also operate further high up on the right flank.

The 22-year-old full-back contributed to four goals in the Bundesliga last season. He excels defensively, but there is a scope to improve his output in the final third. Considering Die Roten need the right mix of offensive and defensive abilities on the right side of the defense, Mukiele could be an ideal option. (Stats courtesy: Whoscored)

More from Bayern Strikes

Die Roten generally try to sign young players from rivals who have few years left on their contract. The likes of Leon Goretzka and Alexander Nubel arrived on free transfers from Schalke. Since Leipzig is one of the top teams in Germany, signing Mukiele from them will be a challenging transfer for the German Champions.

Apart from Mukiele, Rekordmeister have also been heavily linked with Sergino Dest and Max Aarons. The former was reportedly subject to a formal bid in January, while the interest in the latter has emerged in the past few weeks. The German champions would like to make the right transfer that fits in the team for an appropriate transfer fee in the current climate.

The German club is currently focussing on the Champions League, so the signing of new right-back may have to wait for some time. It does look inevitable, though. The recent injury to Pavard highlighted the importance of signing a young right-back in summer.

Dest, Aarons, and Mukiele tick all the boxes for the type of right-back Die Roten are looking to sign. After the Champions League, there will be a clear picture of the club’s preference for this position. At the moment, it feels like they are exploring all options.
