Vincent Kompany was full of praise of Bayern Munich winger Leroy Sané, who made a big impact off the bench against Benfica in the Champions League.

Bayern Munich clinched a vital win in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday evening, boosting their hopes of qualifying to the knockout stage. The Bavarians defeated SL Benfica 1-0, with Jamal Musiala scoring the winning goal in the second-half.

After the game, Vincent Kompany reserved special praise for Leroy Sané, who came off the bench and played a key role in Bayern's win. The winger also delivered the cross for the winning goal that was headed into Musiala's path by Harry Kane.

Asked about his former Manchester City teammate's performance against Benfica, Kompany told host broadcaster DAZN, "Leroy changed the game, you could say that. Leroy did very well after he was subbed on (against Benfica)."

"I'm very happy to have the quality of Leroy Sané and Michael Olise in the same position, not to forget Kingsley Coman and Serge Gnabry. They have all scored goals and contributed well so far this season."

Manchester United, Arsenal in race to sign Leroy Sané

Leroy Sané has largely been used off the bench this season by Vincent Kompany, but has been finding his form in recent weeks. The 28 year old's future has been the subject of some speculation of late, with his current contract set to expire at the end of the season.

Teams are already lining up for his signature, and the competition could intensify if Bayern fail to agree to terms with him on a new contract. Reports in Germany claim that Manchester United and Arsenal are ready to go head-to-head in the race to sign Sané. And it will be interesting to see what the future holds for him beyond the end of the season.
