Tom Bischof set for a bigger role at Bayern Munich next season

Considering the transfer business completed until now, Bayern Munich midfielder Tom Bischof is expected to play a more important part in the squad next campaign.

With Bayern Munich's latest activities in the summer transfer window, Tom Bischof might be looking at a more prominent role in the 2026/27 season. Bayern bid farewell to two veterans, Leon Goreztka and Raphael Guerreiro, at the conclusion of the 2025/26 season. The duo had left the club as free agents.

In the latest news, Die Roten has agreed on terms to send young midfield talent Noel Aseko Nkili to Eintracht Frankfurt for a fee of around €12 million. The deal has not yet been completed, but it is close.

The 20-year-old recently came back to Munich after a decent loan stint in Hannover, but might choose to head to Frankfurt for the prospect of more playing time.

Bayern will also seek to deal Joao Palhinha to another European club, with Benfica leading the race at the moment. The big-money move to the Allianz Arena did not work out for the Portuguese international, and it makes sense for both parties to find a way out.

With the potential of four departures from players who play in the midfield, this is a golden opportunity for Tom Bischof to step up and take the reins.

Bayern will reportedly not be actively looking for another midfielder but instead rely on newcomer Nathaniel Brown, who is naturally a left-back, as a backup.

All paths are now open for Bischof to take over the third midfield role and become an immediate replacement for the departed players, while also being a versatile option down the flanks.

The go-to midfield pivot for Vincent Kompany is currently Aleksandar Pavlovic and vice-captain Joshua Kimmich, but that can all change as the season progresses. Pavlovic is under criticism after a disappointing World Cup campaign, while Bischof has shown he has matured greatly at the end of last season. They will fight for a starting position alongside Kimmich.

Bischof can get consistent run in his best position

Last season, the 21-year-old played in 38 games for Bayern Munich, with 21 appearances off the bench. He scored three goals and three assists, including a massive brace against Freiburg in a dramatic away comeback. However, he primarily played as a left-back last season, filling in for the injured Alphonso Davies and Hiroki Ito.

On a few occasions, Bischof stepped up into midfield; he impressed with his accurate passing, tempo-dictating, and physicality on both sides of the ball. Of course, it would be a serious mistake not to mention his long-range shooting, a dangerous weapon that Bayern has craved for so many years from its midfielders.

With next year's transition back to his original position in midfield, many fans hope to see the brilliant version of Tom Bischof they have witnessed in Hoffenheim and Germany U21 colours.
