Bayern Munich loanee Paul Wanner showcased his excellent potential on his Bundesliga debut with Heidenheim as his goal helped them claim a 2-0 win over St. Pauli.
Paul Wanner is regarded as one of the most talented young players in Bayern Munich's youth team ranks. He will be spending the 2024/25 season out on loan at Heidenheim, and he enjoyed a dream start to the season on Sunday as he scored in their Bundesliga opener against St. Pauli at the Millerntor-Stadion.
Paul Wanner makes it two goals in two games for Heidenheim
Making his first start in the Bundesliga, Wanner certainly made his presence felt for Heidenheim. There wasn't much to separate the two sides for much of the contest. And Wanner produced the breakthrough in the 66th minute at the end of a blistering counter-attack.
The 18 year old got on the end of Marvin Pieringer's through ball and found the bottom corner with a well taken first-time finish to give Heidenheim the lead. Jan Schöppner then made sure of the three points for Frank Schmidt's side from a corner.
The win helped Heidenheim continue their excellent start to the season. They will now hope to secure their place in the league phase of the UEFA Conference League this week. Heidenheim hold a 2-1 lead over Swedish side BK Häcken from the first leg of their qualifier.
Paul Wanner has now scored two goals in two games for Heidenheim this season. The attacking midfielder was an unused substitute during the first leg of the Conference League tie.
