Tricky DFB-Pokal tie awaits Bayern Munich in first game of Vincent Kompany era

Bayern Munich will get the Vincent Kompany era underway with a potentially tricky DFB-Pokal tie away to newly crowned 3. Liga champions SSV Ulm.
Still reeling from the aftermath of their disappointing season, Bayern Munich have discovered their first opponents of the 2024/25 campaign. The Bavarians will begin the new season away to SSV Ulm in the first round of the DFB-Pokal.
The tie will mark Vincent Kompany's first competitive match in charge of Bayern Munich, and will take place on August 16-19 at the Donaustadion. Bayern will certainly fancy their chances of getting the win and progressing to the next round.
But after being eliminated from the DFB-Pokal by third division side FC Saarbrücken this season, Bayern will also be aware that they cannot afford to take this fixture lightly.
SSV Ulm won the 3. Liga title this season, and clinched promotion to the 2. Bundesliga. They will now set their sights on picking up where they left off, and starting the new season with an upset against Bayern Munich.
Winning the DFB-Pokal will definitely be high on Bayern Munich's list of priorities next season, with their last triumph in the tournament coming in the 2019/20 season. Vincent Kompany will hope for a comfortable win against Ulm in his first official game as Bayern head coach.
Bayern Munich will also not be taking part in the DFL-Supercup next season, with Bundesliga and DFB-Pokal champions Bayer Leverkusen set to take on VfB Stuttgart. This will be the first time since 2011 that Bayern will not take part in the season's curtain raising event.
