It has been a difficult few weeks for Bayern Munich in their search for a new head coach. They had identified Bayer Leverkusen’s Xabi Alonso as their top target to replace Thomas Tuchel in the summer. The Spaniard rebuffed interest from Bayern and Liverpool to stay at Leverkusen for one more season.

After Alonso decided to stay in Leverkusen, Bayern opened talks with Julian Nagelsmann about a return to Munich. The former Hoffenheim head coach eventually agreed to a contract extension with DFB, piling on more problems for Die Roten in their search for a new coach.

Ralf Rangnick was third on Bayern’s list to replace Tuchel. The German coach was reportedly close to agreeing a deal with Die Roten before changing his mind at the last moment. Rangnick will continue to work with the Austrian national team instead of moving to Bavaria. Bayern also had an inquiry for Oliver Glasner rejected by Crystal Palace.

Hansi Flick was also concretely linked with a return to Bavaria in the last few days. Tuchel staying at the club for one more season cannot be ruled out. Since the club chiefs are yet to make up their mind regarding the new head coach, we look at three potential options they can consider to replace Tuchel.
