Serge Gnabry is happy to be making an impact for Bayern Munich after a difficult summer full of speculation and rumors surrounding his future at the club.
Few Bayern Munich fans would have expected Serge Gnabry to have the start he has had to this season. But the winger has established himself as a regular starter in the Bayern attack and has made a strong start to his campaign. It has come after a summer of uncertainty that featured plenty of rumors surrounding his future.
"I have a lot of joy playing football again" - Serge Gnabry
"It was impossible to not read or hear it [the speculation]. But I was focused on myself. I used the summer to get back in shape and prepare well. I have a lot of joy playing football again after last season, I was injured a lot. But that's in the past. I'm trying to enjoy football, enjoy being healthy, and try to help the team," Gnabry told ESPN after Bayern's 1-1 draw against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday.
Rumors were rife during the summer transfer window that Bayern Munich would look to sell Gnabry following the arrival of Michael Olise. But the former Arsenal man stayed on, and is now an important part of the team.
Gnabry made a strong impression on Vincent Kompany during pre-season, and has featured in all seven of Bayern's matches so far. The 29 year old has three goals and two assists to his name, and nearly added another to his tally against Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, only to be denied by the woodwork twice.
Injuries hampered Serge Gnabry's progress last season. But he is now fully fit and making his presence felt at Bayern Munich. For Kompany, having him in the team makes for another welcome selection headache.
