According to a Monday report from Florian Plettenberg, Serge Gnabry will not be leaving Bayern Munich this summer.

There had been a number of reports linking Gnabry away from Bavaria, including to Newcastle United. Reports have been consistent in saying that he did not ever want to leave Bayern, but the feeling was not reciprocated by the club.

However, the aforementioned report from Florian Plettenberg says that Bayern have been impressed by Gnabry's pre-season performances, in training and in games, and that Vincent Kompany is "counting on him".

A look into what Serge Gnabry's immediate future at Bayern Munich looks like

The competition for places will be harder than last season for Serge Gnabry to nail down a starting spot. Michael Olise has not come to Bayern to sit on the bench, and Mathys Tel has shown in pre-season that he is a player capable of starting from the left.

While Leroy Sané struggled for form for a large period of last season, his former Manchester City team-mate Vincent Kompany could just be the coach to get the best out of him again.

There is no doubt that a fit and firing Serge Gnabry is of use to Bayern Munich. Even last season, easily his least productive season in a Bayern jersey - the 29-year old put up three goals and an assist in just 432 Bundesliga minutes.

Gnabry offers Bayern versatility, he is able to play on either wing or up front - which is useful for someone who is looking for more minutes. There doesn't have to be a player in a certain forward position unavailable, rather any type of forward and Gnabry would be able to deputise.

Another tick in the box for Gnabry is that squad depth will be more important than ever this season. Before even considering anything else, there will be eight group phase games in the Champions League, rather than the usual six.

If Bayern finish between 9th-24th in the new group format, they would then have to play another two play-off games in order to secure their qualification to the round of 16. Should this happen, that would be four more games than they would have played before the round of 16 in any previous edition.

All being well, Bayern will also have a deeper run in the DFB-Pokal after last year's embarrassing early exit, and that competition will be seen as the perfect opportunity for Gnabry to prove himself from the start.

Then, of course, there is the controversial 2025 FIFA Club World Cup that Bayern will be competing in. Bayern will have had to have used their squad well during the regular season to maintain optimal performance during the Club World Cup.

Reports suggest that Vincent Kompany is planning "more rotation than his predecessor" to avoid dissatisfaction for the team. Whilst this isn't for the same reason as mentioned above, it plays into Gnabry's hands all the same and gives him a chance to show what he can do.

All in all - it is a positive for Bayern Munich that Serge Gnabry is seemingly staying for the upcoming 24/25 season. It is now down to Gnabry himself to make sure that it is a postive for him too.
