Bayern Munich worked on strengthening the defense during January. They signed Eric Dier to add more experience to central defense, while Sacha Boey arrived from Galatasaray to add more quality to the right-back position.

Dier seamlessly integrated into the squad and became a crucial member of the starting XI at Bayern. The English defender delivered solid performances in the heart of defense alongside Matthijs de Ligt. He ended up activating the option of extending his contract until the end of the 2024/25 season.

However, things didn’t go as planned for Boey. The French defender suffered two serious injuries that kept him on the sidelines for the majority of Ruckrunde. Despite a slow start to life in Munich, Boey will have a big role to play for Die Roten next season.

According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Boey could become a key player for Bayern next season. Vincent Kompany is a big fan of the French right-back. The Belgian coach tried to sign Boey for Burnley. The French defender can become Die Roten’s first-choice right-back under Kompany.

Bayern are reportedly keen on parting ways with Noussair Mazraoui this summer. The Moroccan defender has not been able to establish himself as a regular member of the starting XI at Bayern during the last two seasons.

Die Roten currently have no plans to sign a new right-back. In the event of Mazraoui’s departure, Boey will become Bayern’s first-choice right-back next season. Joshua Kimmich and Konrad Laimer are other right-back options for Kompany next season. Laimer is set to stay at the club next season, but Kimmich’s future is far from certain at the club.

Boey has recovered from an injury that ended his season in April. The French full-back will get to take part in the entire pre-season training and play all pre-season friendlies. He will look to make a positive impression in order to start the season as first choice right-back of Bayern.

Kompany wants to implement an expansive style of football at Die Roten. The Belgian coach would like his full-backs to significantly contribute at both ends of the pitch. Kompany is counting on Alphonso Davies to be his first-choice left-back. It does look like Boey may have a free run for the right-back position in the starting XI.
