Michael Olise and his France side will continue their Olympic dream, having secured qualification to the quarterfinals in men's football at this summer's Paris Olympics.

Thierry Henry's side finished top of their group after defeating New Zealand 3-0 on Tuesday, and will now go up against Javier Mascherano's Argentina in the quarterfinals.

This game has a lot of narrative to it, after the famous World Cup final in Qatar in 2022. Julian Alvarez and Nicolas Otamendi started in the final for Argentina, and are also part of the current Olympic side that will take on France. More recently, Argentina players were filmed singing derogatory songs towards the French national team, so there is even more spice to this game than before.

Bayern's new signing got some rest for the game against New Zealand, starting on the bench as Thierry Henry made six changes to his starting XI, with one eye on the quarterfinals.

Olise came on in the 65th minute, replacing Rayan Cherki, with the score 1-0. The winger showed his quality when he created a big chance for Andy Diouf, though the chance did not result in a goal.

Bayern Munich target Désiré Doué started as a right wing-back, scoring the second goal, as France lined up in a 3421 formation.

France's showdown with Argentina will take place in Bordeaux on Friday night. Argentina finished second in their group, finishing below Morocco due to H2H record after both teams finished on 6 points.

Olise has been heavily praised for his performances at the Olympic games so far, and the 22-year old will be looking impress again on Friday night, as he will surely return to the France starting XI.

Should France be victorious against Argentina, they and Olise will be guaranteed to take part in two more games.

This is due to there being a bronze medal match, so even if France were to lose their potential semifinal, they would take part in the bronze medal match in Nantes, on August 8.

If they win - France will play in the final in Paris, at the Parc Des Princes, on August 9, exactly two weeks before the start of the 24/25 Bundesliga season.
