Michael Olise and his France Olympic team have advanced to the semifinals of this years men’s tournament following their 1-0 win over Argentina.
The new Bayern Munich signing once again started as a number 10 in Thierry Henry’s diamond formation and played a crucial role once again for his country.
France opened the scoring after just five minutes, after Olise set up Jean-Philippe Mateta from a corner. Bayern’s new superstar signing thought he had put the result beyond doubt when he scored six minutes from time, with a lovely finish from just inside the box.
After a lengthy VAR check, the goal was disallowed for a foul and the score remained 1-0 going into the late stages of the game. There was an added time of 10 minutes, and a further two minutes were played.
However, Thierry Henry’s side were able to hang on for victory to secure Les Blues' place into the final four of the competition.
The exciting winger created three chances over the course of the game, had two shots and two accurate crosses. He was once again the difference maker for his team and showed the class he has.
France and Olise will go up against Egypt in the semifinals on Monday night in Lyon for a place in the final on Friday afternoon.
Regardless of result, there will be two further games for Olise’s side due to the bronze medal that will take place on Thursday afternoon.
The potential bronze medal game will be played against either Spain or Morocco, who face off in the other semifinal on Monday, immediately before France’s semifinal.
The 22-year old now has 4 goals and 3 assists in 6 games for France’s Olympic team this summer, and will no doubt be looking to add to that in the semifinal against Egypt.
