Max Eberl comments on Alphonso Davies' recent struggles
Max Eberl has had his say on Alphonso Davies' recent struggles for form, amid uncertainty over his future beyond the end of the season.
Alphonso Davies has endured a difficult season so far, with the left-back position becoming a huge area of concern for Bayern Munich. The Canadian international's recent performances have left a lot to be desired, and BILD claim that even opposition players have been left surprised by his struggles.
Just how much truth there is to this report remains to be seen, but there is no denying that Davies has not been able to recapture the form that made him one of the top left-backs in the world. The 23 year old's struggles have come amid speculation that Real Madrid are interested in signing him.
Davies' current contract expires at the end of next season, and negotiations over a new contract have seemingly reached a standstill.
Max Eberl was asked by BILD about Davies' recent form, and said, "Phonzy [Alphonso Davies] had his issues with Saka at the beginning, but so did other defenders. Phonzy was much more stable in the second half."
When questioned whether speculation over his future could be behind Davies' struggles, Eberl said, "It shouldn't really! I can't say what the reasons are for that, why he hasn't been as good in recent weeks."
Bayern Munich will be keen for a swift decision on Alphonso Davies' future, as they look to finalise their plans for the summer transfer window. If Davies decides against signing an extension, the likelihood is that the Bavarians will look to sell him this summer.
