In the first leg of this Champions League semifinal, Bayern Munich had the better of the exchanges but fell just short of victory in the end. Real Madrid left Munich with a 2-2 draw and are the favorites going into the second leg at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday.

Bayern enter the second leg on the back of a disappointing 3-1 loss away to Stuttgart on Saturday, and in the process lost the services of Raphael Guerreiro due to an ankle injury. His absence further added to Bayern’s current injury woes. On the other hand, Real Madrid defeated Cadiz 3-0 and were crowned La Liga champions. With the fortunes of the two teams trending in opposite directions, with regard to both recent results and injuries, let us take a look at how Bayern might get the better of Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabeu.

Bounce back with the right attitude

After suffering consecutive losses in the Bundesliga, Bayern Munich appeared to be in shambles ahead of the first leg of their Champions League quarterfinal against Arsenal. Yet, against the odds, the Bavarians came away from the Emirates with a 2-2 draw and eventually progressed to the semifinals courtesy of a 1-0 win in the second leg.

This time around Bayern will not have the benefit of playing in front of a home crowd but the mindset has to be similar as they will need to positively move on from the loss at the weekend. In effect, the mindset has to be that this is the final game of the season and the only chance at silverware, despite it not being the actual final.
