Bayern Munich hosted Croatian side Dinamo Zagreb on matchday one of the 24/25 Champions League season. It could not have gone much better for the Bavarian side, as they thumped their opponents 9-2 with the goals coming from a Harry Kane quadruple, a Michael Olise brace, and a goal each from Jamal Musiala, Raphael Guerreiro, and Leon Goretzka.

Vincent Kompany was managing his first ever game in the Champions League, and went with the following XI: Neuer - Guerreiro, Upamecano, Kim, Davies - Kimmich, Pavlovic - Olise, Musiala, Gnabry - Kane. It was interesting to note, despite the injury to Sacha Boey, Kimmich still played in midfield - with the left-footed Guerreiro at right-back instead.

Harry Kane continues stunning run of form in record Bayern Munich win

It was an intense start from Bayern, who looked to be aggressive and pressed their opponents high up the pitch. After a number of shots in the early minutes, Kompany's side were awarded a penalty after a foul on Pavlovic. Kane stepped up to do what he does best, and made it 50 goals in 50 games for Bayern Munich.

33 minutes in, and Bayern had two. Musiala expertly chested a ball into the path of Guerreiro, who smashed the ball into the back of the net on the half volley. The linesman had his flag up in real time, but replays showed Musiala was clearly onside, and common sense prevailed as the referee pointed to the half-way line shortly after.

Just five minutes later, and it was 3-0. Kimmich whipped the ball in after a short corner with Musiala and there was Olise to fire home a header and score on his Champions League debut.

At half-time, Sven Ulreich replaced Manuel Neuer in the Bayern goal, who appeared to have an injury. Although the first-choice goalkeeper seems to be okay, and could feature this weekend in Bremen.

Just three minutes after the break, Bruno Petrovic got one back for Zagreb. Then, after only 50 minutes - Zagreb had two as Takuya Ogiwara converted, and we had a real game on in Munich.

Fortunately, seven minutes later, Kane tapped home a rebound from a Kimmich strike to settle some nerves at the Allianz Arena. Four minutes after that, and Olise had his second goal of the night after Musiala squared it to him for an open goal - and Bayern had restored their three goal lead to make it 5-2.

With a little over twenty minutes to go, Müller, Sané, and Dier replaced Musiala, Olise, and Kim in a triple substitution.

After 73 minutes, Bayern were awarded their second penalty of the night, and Kane converted to make it back-to-back hat-tricks for the England captain. Bizarrely, five minutes after that - Bayern had yet another penalty, their third of the night. Kane once again, and Bayern had a 7-2 lead.

Nine minutes from time, Goretzka replaced Guerreiro, despite the German midfielder's current tough situation at the club.

Kompany's side were not done there though. Five minutes from the end of normal time, Sané fired in a low effort, having been teed up by Müller - to make it 8-2. There was time for one more, as two minutes into injury time, Goretzka headed home from a Kimmich cross to make it 9-2 for Bayern.
