In their final home game of the 2023/24 Bundesliga season, Bayern Munich welcomed mid-table side Wolfsburg to the Allianz Arena. On the back of their heartbreaking 2-1 loss in the Champions League semifinals against Real Madrid, Thomas Tuchel fielded a starting XI which contained no fewer than eight changes.
The only starters retained from last Wednesday’s loss were Manuel Neuer, Joshua Kimmich and Aleksandar Pavlovic.
Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamecano and Alphonso Davies joined Kimmich in the back four. Leon Goretzka replaced Konrad Laimer in midfield. Whilst in attack, there was a new quartet featuring Mathys Tel as the lone striker supported by Croation U-21s international Lovro Zvonarek on the right; Bryan Zaragoza on the left and Thomas Müller as the number ten.
Bayern Munich started off strong and raced to a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Lovro Zvonarek and Leon Goretzka. There were no more goals after the early flurry, but Bayern still managed to cruise to victory.
Let us look at some takeaways from Bayern's 2-0 win against Wolfsburg which kept them two points ahead of third placed Stuttgart ahead of the final matchday.
