Bayern Munich star ruled out of Euros due to illness
Aleksandar Pavlovic has endured rotten luck in international football until. After getting ruled out for Germany’s opener against Scotland, DFB confirmed on Wednesday that the Bayern Munich midfielder will miss the entire tournament due to an infection caused by recurring tonsilitis.
DFB has lined up Borussia Dortmund’s Emre Can as Pavlovic’s replacement in the squad. Pavlovic took to Instagram to confirm the news, expressing disappointment over the early end of his Euros dream. The German midfielder will return to Sabner Strasse to resolve the infection.
Pavlovic had missed Germany’s friendly games in March due to a similar problem. He made his debut for Germany last week against Ukraine. It was going to be a valuable experience for the youngster after enjoying a breakthrough campaign at Bayern. He wouldn’t have played a lot due to the pecking order in the midfield, but there was a lot to learn from senior players. Julian Nagelsmann had suggested that Pavlovic could learn a lot from Toni Kroos during training for the German national team.
The 20-year-old midfielder will reportedly undergo surgery in the summer to resolve the tonsilitis problem. Barring any complications, Pavlovic should be fit by the start of the pre-season training in July. The youngster will play a crucial role under Vincent Kompany.
Bayern are reportedly planning to reward Pavlovic’s breakthrough campaign with an improved contract. His current deal with the Bavarian club expires in 2027. Die Roten will offer him better terms that go in line with his status in the first team.
Pavlovic is also likely to have a new midfield partner next season. The German midfielder may consistently pair up with Joao Palhinha in the center of the park. Bayern have revived interest in the Portuguese midfielder after failing to complete the deal on the deadline day of the last summer transfer window. Die Roten will go back with an improved offer after their first bid was rejected last week.
The Portuguese midfielder will play in the number six position, while Pavlovic will be utilized in the number eight/deep-lying playmaker role under Kompany. The Bavarian club may sell Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka after signing Joao Palhinha from Fulham. Die Roten want to be good sellers like last summer to raise funds for the squad overhaul.
Ahead of Germany’s clash against Scotland on Friday, Joshua Kimmich, Leroy Sane, and Jamal Musiala, and Manuel Neuer are expected to be in the starting XI. Neuer will look to get back in form after making a poor mistake against Greece.
