Bayern Munich sporting director Christoph Freund has commented on the club's interest in signing Florian Wirtz, who could leave Bayer Leverkusen next summer.
It is no secret that Bayern Munich would like to sign Florian Wirtz, even if it remains to be seen whether they will be able to afford a move for the Bayer Leverkusen playmaker. The expectation is that Wirtz will leave Leverkusen next summer for a big-money fee, and Bayern are set to face competition from the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid for his signature.
Bayern Munich boss coy on interest in Bayer Leverkusen's Florian Wirtz
Christoph Freund has now commented on whether Wirtz could be an option for Bayern Munich next summer. During his appearance on BILD TV, the Bayern Munich sporting director said, "That's not a topic for us right now. We're very happy with the squad we have. Of course Florian Wirtz is a great player, did very well last season and is playing well together with Jamal Musiala in the national team."
"But as I said we're happy with our squad. I can't say what will happen in the coming months and years and I do not want to speculate
Wirtz has made an excellent start to the season and has six goals and one assist to his name in just seven appearances across all competitions so far for Bayer Leverkusen. The 21 year old also helped Xabi Alonso's side pip Bayern to the Bundesliga title last season.
While Bayern are being coy about their interest in signing Florian Wirtz for now, the Bayer Leverkusen star will be at the Allianz Arena this weekend for the Bundesliga clash between the two sides. A strong performance from him in Saturday's topspiel would only further raise his already ever-rising price tag, and increase Bayern's interest in his signature.
