Bayern Munich want to sign Chelsea star, currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund

Bayern Munich are in the market for a new defender come the summer transfer window. This is because they are under the expectation that Alphonso Davies will leave the club, if not this summer then at least next summer. The Canadian full-back is expected to join Real Madrid.

Thankfully for Bayern Munich fans, there are plenty of options out there. For unknown reasons, there are surplus full-backs for sale, or at least available to sign, in the summer transfer window. Bayern Munich have turned to Chelsea as their best suitor.

According to a report from HITC, Bayern Munich would like to sign Chelsea star Ian Maatsen to fill the void left by Alphonso Davies' departure. Maatsen is currently on loan at Borussia Dortmund, but he will return to Chelsea in the summer.

Also in the report, it is stated that Bayern Munich aniticipate their contract offer for Alphonso Davies will be rejected. The Canadian full-back has his heart elsewhere, in the Spanish capital. Therefore, it is much better for Bayern to sell him this summer, so they will at least recuperate some of their losses in the form of a transfer fee, as opposed to losing him for free.

Maatsen has been an incredible addition to Borussia Dortmund since he joined on loan in the January transfer window. He has been included in the Bundesliga starting eleven in every match since he joined, becoming a key member of BVB. He has even scored a goal and provided two assists in his opening 10 league games.

Already boasting great Bundesliga experience, it's clear to see why the Bavarians would like to sign him. They need to bolster their ranks for next season, in the hopes of a tighter contest at the top of the table.
