Bayern Munich had a productive December when it comes to squad building for next season. The Bavarian club agreed on contract extensions with three senior players. Sven Ulreich and Manuel Neuer signed one-year extensions to provide clarity in the goalkeeping department before Thomas Muller squashed speculation by signing a new deal until 2025.

Muller has endured a dip in playing time this season since Jamal Musiala has been playing well in the number ten position. The German forward has been largely used from the bench by Thomas Tuchel.

Despite a reduction in playing time, Muller has been a very good influence in the dressing room. He has delivered quality performances from the bench and in games where Tuchel has handed him starts. Tuchel has always insisted that Muller is a key member of the squad, and he wanted the German forward to stay at the club.

Bayern quickly sorted out the contract extension for Thomas Muller once he confirmed his desire to play at the top level at least until 2025. The news of Muller’s contract has been music to the ears of the Bavarian faithful and several Bayern legends. While talking to Sport1, Bayern legend Sepp Maier hailed Muller and expressed happiness about his contract renewal.

"“Thomas Muller is the Gerd Müller of modern times. Gerd would have been proud that Thomas extended his contract again. He is simply a Bayern legend, a good guy and a really good player. His professionalism, the authentic and funny way he goes on about things make him unique.""

Maier will be pleased if Muller ends up breaking his record of most appearances as a Bayern player. Muller is currently on 676 appearances for Die Roten, 30 behind Maier’s record tally. If the German forward remains fit for the majority of the next 18 months, he will easily go past Maier.

Bayern are expected to make tough decisions in the summer. Tuchel and Christoph Freund are tasked with rejuvenating the squad with hungry players. Muller will be a big help for the club during the period of transition.

After Muller, Bayern are focussing on the contract extensions of Leroy Sane and Alphonso Davies. Sane has already hinted towards signing a new deal, but negotiations with Davies will not be straightforward. The Canadian full-back’s wage demands are a stumbling block, with Real Madrid also showing interest in him.

Joshua Kimmich’s contract extension will soon become a topic of discussion at Die Roten. The German midfielder’s contract expires in 2025. Since the next deal will be the last big contract for Kimmich, he is reportedly looking for an agent to assist with negotiations. It remains to be seen if the Bavarian club wants to keep him or decide to cash in during the summer transfer window.
