Bayern Munich have a lot of work to do when it comes to contract renewals during the second half of the season. The Bavarian club sorted out new deals for Sven Ulreich, Manuel Neuer, and Thomas Muller in December, but a difficult round of negotiations is expected to take place in Ruckrunde with the younger members of the squad.
Joshua Kimmich is one of the players in the squad that have entered the final 18 months of their current deals. The German midfielder confirmed last week that talks are yet to take place with Bayern over a new deal.
There is significant speculation over Kimmich’s future. As per one report in Germany, Bayern no longer considers Kimmich’s departure as an unrealistic outcome in the summer. Paris Saint-Germain showed interest in Kimmich this month. The French club reportedly tried to include Kimmich in a deal for Nordi Mukiele, but the German midfielder is focused on spending the rest of the season in Munich.
PSG is not the only club to show interest in Kimmich during the last couple of weeks. According to SportBild, Newcastle United are also enquired about Kimmich. The English explored a possible deal for the German midfielder in the winter, but the player has no plans to leave Bavaria by the end of January.
SportBild also reveals that Kimmich’s future in Munich is far from certain, and Bayern are open to negotiating a transfer. The German international will reportedly hire an agent to look after the next deal since it will be the last big contract of his career.
Newcastle United will find it difficult to clinch a deal for Kimmich in the summer. As things stand, they will not qualify for next season’s Champions League. Moreover, bigger clubs will be in for Kimmich, which will make it difficult for Eddie Howe’s team to sign the German midfielder.
Considering the financial problems Newcastle United find themselves in right now, it is quite ambitious for them to think about a transfer for Kimmich in January. The Premier League club needs to sell first before thinking about splurging money in the market.
Kimmich has been a consistent performer for Bayern since arriving from RB Leipzig in 2015. He is still 28, so it will be disappointing for the Bavarian faithful to see him leave in the summer. The longer Bayern takes to initiate contract talks with the German international, the more concrete his departure from Bavaria will become in the summer.
