FC Bayern's top of the table clash with Eintracht Frankfurt ended in a 3-3 scoreline after a thrilling 90 minutes at the Deutsche Bank Park in Frankfurt. The goals for Die Roten were scored by Kim Min-jae, Dayot Upamencao, and Michael Olise, in that order. Omar Marmoush was the star man for Dino Toppmöller's side with two goals and an assist.

Three points snatched away in stoppage time

The match ended in a dramatic fashion, as Bayern were unsuccessful in holding out their narrow 3-2 lead owing to Marmoush's equalizing goal in the dying minutes.

Having dominated for most of the game, Vincent Kompany's team had to ultimately share the spoils with Frankfurt. This makes it three games in a row that FC Bayern have bossed all the attacking statistics and yet failed to win the match.

Bayern Munich chiefs happy with the performance

Bayern director Max Eberl's assessment of the game was rather positive. He commended the amount of effort put in by the players and noted how this wasn't the case in the previous ties against Frankfurt. Bayern lost this fixture 5-1 last season under Thomas Tuchel.

"When was the last time Bayern ran 6 kilometers more in Frankfurt? When did Bayern play so dominantly in Frankfurt? Never! They were second in the Bundesliga and we crushed them. The only thing that really pissed us off is the result," Eberl said (via SPORT1).

Bayern's Christoph Freund also had good things to say about the performance and the team's development so far under new coach Vincent Kompany. "We're disappointed with the result, but the performance was really good. We were extremely dominant in the first half. It was fun to watch the team. Despite that, we conceded three goals, which hurts."

Bayern generated a total of 2.05 xG (expected goals), compared to Frankfurt's 1.24. They also attempted many more shots (24) than Frankfurt (6).

Freund also expressed that the team is on a "really good path" while there are still some things that "we want to improve."

FC Bayern have won every game this season on xG as well as on possession percentage. The 'improvement' Freund mentioned is most likely refering to Bayern's susceptibility to counter-attacks, which was an issue not only against Frankfurt, but also against Aston Villa most recently in the Champions League.

Another tough set of fixtures after the international break

With this latest draw against Eintracht Frankfurt, Vincent Kompany's Bayern Munich go into the international break with 14 points on the league table, positioning them at the top by virtue of goal difference.

RB Leipzig are second and defending champions Bayer Leverkusen are not too far behind as they sit fifth with a total of 11 points. Upon the resumption of the season, two big challenges await Bayern in the form of VfB Stuttgart (October 19) and FC Barcelona in the Champions League (October 23).
