Bayern Munich call Man City legend to replace Thomas Tuchel, says Fabrizio Romano

Bayern Munich face a race against time to hire a new head coach ahead of the 2024/25 season. After Thomas Tuchel announced that he was leaving, this provided clarity to Die Roten's board, all but assuring they must find a replacement. Thankfully for the German club, a Man City legend may have become available at the right time.

According to a recent report from Bayern Strikes, Bayern Munich are considering two Premier League managers, one of them being Vincent Kompany and the other being Thomas Frank.

Well, according to a new update from Fabrizio Romano published overnight, Bayern Munich contacted Vincent Kompany to gain an understanding of his situation. It is believed that the Man City legend was open to discuss, so he is considered on the realistic shortlist.

In his own words, Romano said: "Kompany has already received direct call from Bayern board to be informed on his situation. Kompany was open to discuss, still early stages but interest is confirmed — he’s in the list."

This is brilliant news for Bayern Munich. Vincent Kompany is a legend of the game, having represented Man City as a player for an 11 year stint. He also captained them magnificently and learnt under the brilliant mentorship of Pep Guardiola and Roberto Mancini.

Since becoming a manager, Vincent Kompany has achieved great success. Most notably, he has managed his boyhood club Anderlecht and Burnley, winning the EFL Championship (second tier of English football) in 2023. This granted Burnely immediate promotion to the Premier League where unfortunately, this campaign, they have underperformed and they will be relegated.

It may seem like a step down for Bayern Munich to acquire a relegated manager but it is through no fault of Kompany's that Burnley were relegated. In many ways, they were unprepared for the Premier League and in over their depth. The board were understandably not able to invest much money into the squad, meaning they were a Championship squad playing in the top flight.

Vincent Kompany has a tenacious never-say-never mentality. This is the type of charisma which makes him a Man City legend and a reason why he won four Premier League titles with Man City.

Needless to say, this type of mentality is needed at Bayern Munich after the Thomas Tuchel era. While the interest is still in its early stage, Kompany is the perfect manager to take on Bayern Munich.
