Bayern Munich hold talks with two Premier League managers
Bayern Munich have gone about their search for a new coach in the worst possible way. They have been rejected by their three top choices, while fourth and fifth choice options have also decided to stay in their respective jobs. Bayern tried to convince Thomas Tuchel to stay but could not find an agreement with him.
The record Bundesliga champions wanted a deal in place for the new coach by the end of April. They are far from knowing their ideal candidate despite the conclusion of the Bundesliga campaign. The latest updates from Germany suggest that Bayern are looking at the Premier League for the new coach.
According to Sky Sports in Germany and Fabrizio Romano, Burnley’s Vincent Kompany is one of the names under consideration at Bayern. The Belgian coach has already held talks with Die Roten. Kompany is not the only Premier League coach linked with Bayern.
As per Bild’s Christian Falk, Bayern are in talks with a Premier League coach who manages outside the top six English clubs. Brentford’s Thomas Frank is one of the candidates internally discussed by Bayern. Frank has done an impressive job at Brentford in the last six years.
Kompany helped Burnley promoted to the Premier League last season with 100 points. However, the Belgian coach couldn’t keep Burnley in the Premier League. They ended the campaign in 19th position. Kompany believes in playing an attractive style of football. Despite relegation this season, Burnley and Kompany have received plaudits for the style of football they have tried to play at the top level in England.
Frank has much more experience at the top level than Kompany. The Austrian has helped Brentford survive in the Premier League three seasons in a row on a relatively smaller budget. They have also beaten big clubs at home and away throughout the last three seasons.
Kompany will be a bigger gamble for Bayern than Frank, but honestly, both candidates do not fill much confidence in the Bavarian faithful. Both didn’t feature at the top of Bayern’s list when they decided to part ways with Thomas Tuchel in February.
With campaigns for Burnley and Brentford over, Bayern can accelerate talks with both clubs if Frank and Kompany are their new top targets. Die Roten need to get the new coach in the building as soon as possible, giving him time to assess the squad and make necessary decisions for the squad overhaul. Bayern are already running late; they cannot afford further uncertainty regarding the head coach role.
