Despite the withdrawal of Jamal Musiala due to a hip problem, Bayern Munich are well represented in the German squad for the international games in October. Serge Gnabry will be relieved to get back in the squad, but it could be an even more special international break for Bayern goalkeeper Alexander Nübel.

According to Bild, Nübel is set to get an opportunity to play in one of the two games during the international break. Julian Nagelsmann is planning to share the game time between Nübel and Oliver Baumann after first-choice goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen suffered a season-ending injury while playing for FC Barcelona.

Germany will face Netherlands and Bosnia and Herzegovina in the Nations League over the next two weeks. Baumann is the favourite to play more games in the absence of Ter Stegen, but Nübel can make a case for himself by doing well in training and the game he will play.

Nübel was unfortunate to miss out on the squad in the European championship despite excelling on loan at VfB Stuttgart. He was cut down from the provisional squad announced by Nagelsmann for the tournament. Nübel will look to make up for the lost time in the upcoming international break.

Nübel and Stuttgart endure slow start to the season

After finishing second in the Bundesliga last season, VfB Stuttgart have endured a slow start to the season. Nübel was one of the best goalkeepers in the division while playing for Stuttgart. However, he is yet to keep a clean sheet for Stuttgart this season after five league games.

While the complete onus is not on Nübel to keep clean sheets, the German goalkeeper will hope to improve on last season and make a case for consistent playing time at Bayern from next campaign.

Bayern consider Nübel part of their long-term plans after his good loan spells at Monaco and VfB Stuttgart in the last three years. They agreed a long-term deal with him earlier this year before sending him out on loan to Stuttgart for two more years. Die Roten reportedly have a break clause in this deal.

Nübel remains a prime candidate to be Manuel Neuer’s long-term replacement at Bayern. It wouldn’t be a surprise if Bayern bring Nübel back next summer if Neuer decides to move on from Munich.

For now, Nübel will look to impress Julian Nagelsmann and make a mark for the German national team during the international break.
