Paul Wanner’s Heidenheim took to the field for their first game in the UEFA Conference League, as they faced Slovenian side Olimpija at home. The Bayern Munich loanee was rested and started on the substitutes' bench.

It was the perfect start for Heidenheim, who took the lead after just six minutes. They would hold onto this lead all the way until the 77th minute, when Olimpija managed to grab an equalizer. Wanner had been introduced to the action 15 minutes beforehand, replacing Adrian Beck.

However, just minutes later and Heidenheim were awarded a penalty. Wanner stepped up, and saw his penalty saved - but was able to tuck away the rebound to restore the lead for his side.

Despite a late onslaught from the visitors, with three shots in the final minute of injury time, Heidenheim were able to see out the six added minutes and clinch an important three points.

In just 28 minutes on the pitch, Wanner recorded three shots on target, one shot off target, 3/4 successful dribbles, five ground duels won, one chance created, and two fouls drawn in a very bright cameo. He was also booked for his celebrations after his winner. The on-loan Bayern youngster is now on five goals and two assists so far this season.

With the opening night of the UEFA Conference League now completed, Wanner and Heidenheim find themselves 13th out of 36 teams. Next up in the Conference League is a trip to Cypriot side Pafos on October 24.

Meanwhile, their final game before the October international break is a tasty looking home game against RB Leipzig on Sunday afternoon, with kick-off at 15:30 CEST, two hours before Bayern take to the field against Frankfurt. Heindehim are currently 6th in the Bundesliga with nine points from five games, above the likes of VfB Stuttgart.
