Bayern Munich international watch: Adam Aznou impresses for Morocco
By Tom Vinall
As the first international break of the window slowly begins to finish, it was another busy day of football, including for some of Bayern Munich's players. Let's take a look at how they got on.
Firstly, on Sunday evening, Joao Palhinha made his first start of the season, for club or country, as Portugal left it late to defeat Scotland 2-1 at home in the Nations League. Unfortunately for the Bayern midfielder, his first start of the season only lasted 45 minutes, as he was withdrawn for Ruben Neves at the break. Still, it would have done him good to get those minutes in the legs.
This win takes Palhinha and Portugal to the top of their Nations League group after two games.
Adam Aznou seriously impressed on his debut for Morocco in a 1-0 win, despite being just 18 years of age. The left-back recorded one interception, three tackles, 6/6 long balls, a staggering 19/24 ground duels won, 2/3 aerial duels won, 6/8 successful dribbles and having two shots. To cap it all off with the perfect ending, Morocco scored a 93rd minute winner to secure a 1-0 win at Lesotho in AFCON qualifying.
This win takes Morocco to the top of their AFCON qualifying group after two games, though the Central African Republic, who are on three points, do have a game in hand.
Konrad Laimer started and played 90 minutes for Austria as they lost 2-1 away to Norway in their Nations League showdown.
This defeat leaves Austria third in their Nations League group.
In the opposite scenario to Friday night's defeat at home to Italy, Dayot Upamecano started for France, whilst Michael Olise was on the bench, in their game at home to Belgium in the Nations League. Les Blues came out 2-0 victors, as Upamecano played the whole game. Olise was introduced for Ousmane Dembele with 10 minutes to go, as he was still able to win 3/3 ground duels and looked at home.
This win elevates France to second in their Nations League, League A group. Belgium also have three points, but France sit just ahead due to the head-to-head tie-breaker.
