Bayern Munich interested in Crystal Palace midfielder
Bayern Munich have finally completed a deal for the new head coach. The Bavarian club confirmed the appointment of Vincent Kompany on a three-year contract. The Belgian coach finally ends Bayern’s three-month-long search for the successor of Thomas Tuchel.
After completing a deal for Kompany, Bayern will look to replenish the squad for the next season. They are planning a squad overhaul after the disappointing campaign. In terms of midfield department, Bayern want to sign a defensive midfielder. They couldn’t sign one last summer as a move for Fulham’s Joao Palhinha fell through on the deadline day.
Die Roten may look at the Premier League again this summer for a defensive midfielder. According to The Independent, Bayern are interested in Crystal Palace midfielder Adam Wharton. The English midfielder has been in fine form since joining Palace from Blackburn Rovers in January.
Wharton can operate as a six and eight in the midfield. He is tidy on the ball and shows great defensive work in front of the back four to break up play. As per The Independent, Bayern had a prior interest in Wharton. He has topped every metric they seek in a defensive midfielder. They will likely follow up interest in him with a bid this summer.
The former Blackburn midfielder will be an expensive transfer since he is on a long-term contract at Crystal Palace. He has been included in the preliminary squad of England for the European Championship. The young midfielder’s stock will rise further if he performs well for England at the Euros.
Bayern have also looked at other midfield options for the number six role. They have been contemplating a move for Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi. The Spanish midfielder reportedly has a release clause worth €60 million in his contract. Die Roten will face competition from Arsenal for Zubimendi.
The Bavarian club has also been linked with a move for Everton’s Amadou Onana. The Belgian midfielder will be an expensive acquisition, but Everton need to raise funds this summer to satisfy the Premier League’s sustainability and profitability rules. Die Roten will face competition from other Premier League giants for Onana.
Wharton can be an exceptional long-term signing for Bayern, but it remains to be seen if he will fit into the club’s budget for midfield. The Bavarian club may go all in for him if there is a significant departure in midfield. Joshua Kimmich and Leon Goretzka face uncertain future at Bayern as they have been consistently linked with a move away from Bavaria in the last six months.
