Any potential deal for Bayern Munich to sign Bayer Leverkusen central defender Jonathan Tah is now reportedly in jeopardy, per BILD.

Eight weeks have now passed since Jonathan Tah informed Bayer Leverkusen of his wish to join Bayern, and the Germany international was hoping the transfer would be sorted by the time he returned from his holiday. But a move is now said to be in jeopardy.

The tabloid claims that the two clubs are "far from an agreement" and Tah is expected to report back to Leverkusen this Sunday for pre-season training.

Leverkusen are said to be adamant that they will not let go of Tah for anything less than 40 million euros. I think most Bayern fans would agree that the club will not be spending that much money for a player with just 12 months left on his contract. So, unless the Bundesliga champions' asking price decreases, this deal feels pretty dead in the water.

Furthermore, if Piero Hincapie leaves, with clubs from England and Spain interested, Leverkusen will reportedly look to keep Tah at all costs and risk losing him for free next summer.

Bayern Munich hoping to sell Matthijs De Ligt before signing Jonathan Tah

You would imagine the talk of Matthijs De Ligt to Manchester United dying down will play a part in this too. It always felt unlikely that Bayern would sign Tah before any potential sale of De Ligt, and with United seemingly cooling interest after the signing of Lenny Yoro, it seems like as of right now that the Dutch defender could stay.

Of course, De Ligt isn't the only central defender that could leave Bayern [and potentially open the door to Tah coming in], but there has been little to no transfer speculation at all regarding Eric Dier, Dayot Upamecano and Kim Min-Jae.

Bayern paying anything above 20 million euros for Tah would be risky business, and it is probably best if they leave the saga for this summer, whilst potentially looking at him on a free transfer next year if necessary.
