Bayern Munich are expected to make big decisions in the summer. They want to rejuvenate the squad under a new head coach. With Thomas Tuchel set to leave at the end of the season, Bayern have to give clarity to younger players regarding their long-term plans. The Bavarian club seems to have taken the first steps in convincing Mathys Tel to stay in Munich.

According to Fabrizio Romano, Bayern’s sporting director, Christoph Freund, held positive talks with the agent of Mathys Tel. The record Bundesliga champions consider Tel a big part of their future. Die Roten will not entertain offers for Tel in the summer.

The discussion with Freund comes on the back of Manchester United’s concrete interest in Tel. The Old Trafford side had reportedly initiated first contact with Tel’s agents regarding a summer move. However, the positive talks with Bayern will certainly bring an end to Manchester United’s interest in Tel.

Mathys Tel has been eager to become a big player for Bayern ever since arriving from Rennes in 2022. He decided against going on loan last summer. Tel wanted to stay in Munich and learn from world-class players by spending time with them at Sabner Strasse.

The French forward started the season on fire as he scored crucial goals for Bayern. He became a super-sub for Tuchel during Hinrunde. However, Tel’s good cameos in the second half have not been rewarded with a place in the starting XI. He is yet to start a Bundesliga game this season.

Tuchel has consistently insisted that minutes from the bench are ideal for Tel at this stage of his career. Even though Bayern struggled in the final third over the last few weeks, Tel had to be content with cameos in the second halves of the games. The lack of starts led to speculation over Tel’s long-term future at Bayern.

Tuchel’s departure at the end of the season will give Tel a fresh start in the first team. The French forward will hope to play regularly under the new head coach. Tel will look to end the season strongly and take the next step in his development by pushing for a place in the starting XI from next season.

Fabrizio Romano has also reported that talks over a new deal for Tel may also take place as Bayern remain determined to keep the French forward. Tel’s current deal at Die Roten comes to an end in 2027.
