Bayern Munich are working on multiple deals right now as they aim to strengthen various areas of the squad this summer. The Bavarian club is locked in negotiations with Fulham for Joao Palhinha after their first bid was rejected last week. Bayern also have an agreement in place with Jonathan Tah regarding a summer transfer, but negotiations with Bayer Leverkusen are yet to begin.
The record Bundesliga champions also want to balance the books by listening to offers for several senior players. In the heart of defense, Bayern are ready to part ways with Matthijs de Ligt. According to Sky Sports, Die Roten will actively look to sell De Ligt in the summer due to his high wages and injury record.
De Ligt currently earns more than €15 million per year at Bayern. He is one of the top earners in the squad. The Dutch international had problems with several injuries during Hinrunde, but he delivered consistent performances in the second half of the season. De Ligt played with Eric Dier in central defense during the majority of games in the final three months of the season.
The 24-year-old center-back was heavily linked with a move away from Bayern in January. However, De Ligt wants to stay in Munich after playing regularly during Ruckrunde. He has been one of Bayern’s consistent defenders in the last two seasons.
Bayern paid €70 million to Juventus for De Ligt in 2022. The Dutch international’s contract at Die Roten expires in 2027. Bayern will look to recoup the majority of the fee they paid for De Ligt. Manchester United have previously shown interest in De Ligt, while Arsenal and PSG were linked with him in January. Considering the quality of De Ligt, more top clubs will show interest in him during the summer transfer window.
De Ligt will make space for Jonathan Tah in the squad. Bayern are also keeping tabs on Chelsea’s Levi Colwill as an alternative for Tah. RB Salzburg’s Oumar Solet is also one of the defensive targets for Bayern this summer.
Bayern may need another center-back in the summer since the future of Dayot Upamecano is also uncertain. The French international effectively became fourth choice central defender at the club during Ruckrunde. Upamecano will sit down with Bayern chiefs after the Euros to get clarity regarding his future at the club.
Dier and Kim Min-jae will stay at Bayern at least for next season. The Bavarian club may revive interest in Barcelona’s Ronald Araujo if Upamecano and De Ligt leave Munich. The club chiefs hope the change of personnel will help Bayern become a defensively robust team next season.
