Bayern Munich endured a painful summer transfer window. They missed out on their top target, Florian Wirtz, early in the summer. After losing Wirtz to Liverpool, Bayern had failed pursuits of several other forwards like Bradley Barcola, Nick Woltemade, and Nico Williams.
The record Bundesliga champions eventually decided to pursue a move for Liverpool forward Luis Diaz. The Colombian forward has been a fine player for the Merseyside club, but there was intense speculation around his future since the end of last season. FC Barcelona pursued a move for Diaz, but eventually signed Marcus Rashford from Manchester United.
Bayern made their move and held intense negotiations to sign the former Porto forward. The Bavarian club ended up paying over the odds for a 28-year-old forward entering the final two years of his contract. Diaz completed a move to Bayern for a total fee closer to €75 million before the start of the season.
The clouds of skepticism around Diaz’s transfer to Bayern faded away quickly as he hit the ground running for the Bavarian club. Diaz has scored four goals in eight appearances for Die Roten across all competitions. He also has three assists to his name in the Bundesliga, including the latest one coming against Werder Bremen.
While speaking to Bild (via iMiaSanMia) after the win against Werder Bremen, Diaz had special praise for his teammates, who made life easier for him in Munich. He believes the support from his teammates on and off the pitch has helped him to hit the ground running.
"The team is making it very easy for me on the pitch. We have a lot of great players, especially up front, who don't just think about scoring goals themselves, but also help their teammates. That gives me a lot of security and confidence. It's incredible to play attacks with them. They have so much quality. I'm really, really happy and feel even better and more comfortable"Luis Diaz
Bayern chiefs will be relieved to see Diaz hit the ground running. After a summer of misses, they will be happy to see that their biggest signing has seamlessly adapted to life in Germany. The Bavarian faithful will be encouraged to see the early impact and intensity that Diaz has brought to the team.
Diaz stunned by Harry Kane’s impact on the pitch
In the same interview, Diaz also admitted that he had been stunned by watching the quality of Harry Kane. The Colombian faced Kane in the Premier League in the past, but he has been surprised by all of his qualities after training and playing with him.
Kane has enjoyed a prolific start to the season, scoring 15 goals in eight games. He has formed a good partnership with Diaz in the attack. Bayern will hope Diaz and Kane maintain this consistency and eventually help the club to bring the Champions League trophy back to Allianz Arena after five years.
