Bayern Munich have endured a lot of frustration throughout the summer transfer window. The Bavarian club has missed out on various targets in the attack for different reasons. Bayern have managed to break this streak of disappointment by completing a deal to sign Luis Diaz from Liverpool.
Diaz was officially announced as a new Bayern player on Wednesday. The Colombian winger has signed a four-year contract with Die Roten. The Bundesliga champions have paid a mouthwatering fee of β¬75 million for the 28-year-old forward. Liverpool have managed to make a profit on a forward they had signed from Porto three and a half years ago.
The former Porto forward will wear number 14 at Bayern. Bayern CEO Jan-Christian Dreesen admitted that Diaz is a statement signing for the club. The Bundesliga champions believe they have got a top-level, versatile forward who has excelled for Liverpool in the Premier League and Champions League.

Diaz had 64 goals and assists in 148 appearances across all competitions for Liverpool in 3.5 seasons. The Colombian forward helped Liverpool lift the Premier League title and all the domestic competitions. The European trophies were the only silverware that Diaz couldnβt lift at the Merseyside club. He will hope to achieve that feat with Bayern.
The Colombian forward will be Bayernβs first-choice option on the left flank. He can also play behind the striker and operate as a number nine. His versatility and tenacity with and without the ball will give Kompany a lot of tactical flexibility in the final third.
Diaz trained with the first team on Wednesday. The Colombian will be presented to the media on Thursday. He is expected to make his debut for Bayern against Lyon on Saturday. (Stats courtesy: Transfermarkt)
Bayern Munich will look to further bolster their attack
Diaz is unlikely to be Bayern's only attacking signing this summer. The Bavarian club parted ways with Leroy Sane and Thomas Muller this summer, while Jamal Musiala will at least miss the first half of the new season due to a serious ankle injury. In such a scenario, Bayern need one more attacking player to make sure they are well prepared to challenge on all fronts next season.
Bayern have identified VfB Stuttgart's Nick Woltemade as the other signing in the attack this summer. They had two bids rejected for the young German forward. They had halted negotiations to focus on signing Diaz from Liverpool. It remains to be seen if they will resume their pursuit of Woltemade or move on to the other targets.
