With the Bundesliga campaign ending this weekend, Bayern Munich will start working on contract renewals and new signings. The Bavarian club is currently looking to define the future of Leroy Sane. The German winger has just over a month left on his contract.

Bayern held constructive talks with Sane in the last few weeks over a new deal. Both parties were close to reaching an agreement, but Sane changed his agent at the last moment. The German winger is now represented by Pini Zahavi.

While talking to Sky Sports this week, Bayern chief Max Eberl has confirmed that Sane has rejected the contract offer from the club. The former Manchester City winger’s representatives have made a counter-offer, but Die Roten are in no mood to renegotiate terms.

Bayern chiefs were initially reluctant to offer a new deal to Sane due to inconsistency in his performances since arriving from Manchester City in 2020. However, the German winger became a key player for Vincent Kompany during the second half of the season. He enjoyed his best campaign in terms of goals scored under the Belgian coach. The Bavarian club eventually decided to offer him a new deal and initiated contract talks midway through Ruckrunde.

Joshua Kimmich urges Leroy Sane to stay at Bayern

The dressing room is also eager to see Sane stay at Bayern beyond this season. While talking to Sky Sports on Saturday, Joshua Kimmich admitted that he has advised Sane to sign a new deal. Kimmich further insisted that the sporting project at Die Roten is one of the best in the world.

Earlier this year, Kimmich committed his future to Bayern by signing a new long-term deal. The German midfielder was also in a familiar situation like Sane. Manchester City and Paris Saint-Germain were interested in signing Kimmich on a free transfer, but he eventually decided to stay in Munich.

Sane has been one of the standout players for Bayern during the second half of the season. The Bavarian faithful would like to see him spend the rest of his peak at Bayern. However, Die Roten are well within their rights to remain firm on the contract offer since they need to balance the books to make space for new signings in the summer.

Bayern will provide clarity over the future of Sane in the coming days. As things stand, it looks like Sane will leave Munich since the Bavarian club has no plans to improve their contract offer.
