Leon Goretzka has found it difficult to get playing time at Bayern Munich this season. The German midfielder was put on the transfer market by Bayern during the summer, but he had no plans to leave Bavaria. Die Roten chiefs consistently insisted that he may find it difficult to get game time, but he was determined to fight for a place in the team.

Moreover, there was no concrete interest from top European clubs in Goretzka. Atletico Madrid and Napoli were loosely linked with him, but both clubs went on to sign other midfielders. Goretzka’s high salary at Bayern might have been a stumbling block for a potential transfer.

The 29-year-old midfielder has been left out of the matchday squad for a couple of games this season. Goretzka has been an unused substitute in several games. Since several midfielders are ahead of him in the pecking order, Goretzka’s situation is unlikely to change. However, he is in no rush to make a decision on his future.

In a column for CaughtOffside, Bild journalist Christian Falk revealed that Leon Goretzka is not planning to leave Bayern in the winter transfer window. Die Roten will be open to listening to offers for Goretzka in January, but he wants to make a decision on his future at the end of the season.

Goretzka will be open to joining Manchester United next summer

Christian Falk also reported that Goretzka will be open to joining Manchester United next summer if he leaves Bayern. The Red Devils are reportedly following his situation in Munich. Manchester United have been linked with the German midfielder in the past.

Goretzka will have one year left on his contract at the end of the season. Die Roten may sell him for a cut-price deal since they eagerly want to trim the wage bill for the new arrivals. A move to the Premier League will suit Goretzka’s qualities in the center of the park. Apart from Manchester United, West Ham had previously shown interest in the German international.

Barring an injury crisis, Goretzka is unlikely to get consistent game time in Munich until the end of the season. He needs to play regularly to stake a claim for a place in the German national team. The German midfielder has been a very good player for Bayern, but a move away from Munich will be in the best interest of all parties.
