Bayern Munich are looking to strengthen the full-back area of the squad. They have already parted ways with Raphael Guerreiro. The Portuguese full-back left Bayern on a free transfer. Meanwhile, Sacha Boey is also set to leave Bayern after spending the second half of the season on loan at Galatasaray.
The Bundesliga champions reportedly want to strengthen both full-back positions. In the left back position, Alphonso Davies has struggled with injuries throughout the season. He is currently nursing another injury, which has put his participation at the World Cup in doubt.
Josip Stanisic has played regularly in the left-back position over the last 12 months. The Croatian has done a decent job in this role, but Bayern can certainly do with another left-back to ensure they are well covered in this position over the course of the season.
Eintracht Frankfurt’s Nathaniel Brown has been attracting interest from several clubs for his consistent performances in the left-back position. Bayern have also reportedly registered interest in the German defender. While talking to the media recently (via Sport1), Brown addressed reports linking him to a move to Bayern.
"Of course I read that, but right now I want to focus on the World Cup. We’ll see what happens after that. But right now my full focus is on the World Cup. I feel great in Frankfurt. I have friends there, I’m really settled in, and am enjoying it."Nathaniel Brown
Brown made 33 Bundesliga appearances for Frankfurt last season. He chipped in with four goals and four assists in the league. The 22-year-old has primarily played in the left-back position, but he can also be deployed further high up the pitch on the left flank.
Courtesy of consistent performances at the club level, Brown has earned a place in Germany’s World Cup squad. He is not expected to be the first-choice left-back for Germany, but his versatility will certainly ensure a decent amount of game time for him at the World Cup.
Bayern will have to pay a fairly decent fee to sign Brown from Frankfurt. He signed a new deal at the club last season. His current deal expires in 2030. Frankfurt are in a strong position to command a big fee for the young defender.
Bayern Munich focusing on strengthening attack
While adding full-backs remains part of summer plans for Bayern, the immediate priority for the club is to sign an attacking player who can provide more depth on the left flank.
The Bundesliga champions had agreed personal terms with Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon, but FC Barcelona swooped in this week and completed the transfer on Saturday. Bayern have to look at other options to strengthen the attack.
Once the attack is strengthened, Die Roten will most likely turn their attention to signing full-backs. They want to add one option on either side of the defense. The Bavarian club will also look to strengthen midfield and central defense, depending on how opportunities come up in the transfer market.
