Bayern Munich want to add a wide player to their squad for next season. The Bundesliga champions were specifically looking to add a player who can play on the left side of the attack. Luis Diaz has been sensational on the left for Bayern since arriving from Liverpool but they need more depth in this position.
Die Roten gad identified Newcastle United forward Anthony Gordon as the top target to strengthen the attack this summer. They had reportedly agreed personal terms with the English forward, but there was significant gap in valuation between the two clubs.
It does look like Bayern are set to miss out on Gordon. According to The Athletic and Fabrizio Romano, FC Barcelona have agreed a fee worth €80 million for Gordon. The Spanish club will be paying €70 million up front and €10 million in bonuses.
Gordon has given the nod to the transfer to FC Barcelona. It is a big blow for Bayern but they are not expected to make any attempts to hijack Gordon’s move to Barcelona. The English forward is expected to complete the transfer to Spanish Champions in the coming days.
Bayern were not keen on paying the fee Newcastle United wanted for Gordon. The Bavarian club is not keen on spending big on players this club as they aim to keep economic stability while strengthening Kompany’s squad.
Bayern will turn their attention to other options
Gordon was not Bayern’s primary target to strengthen the attack. They were relying on Gordon’s will to bring down Newcastle’s demands. RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande is reportedly Bayern’s first choice target.
The Ivory Coast winger has enjoyed a terrific debut season at RB Leipzig. Bayern pivoted their interest from Diomande because Leipzig was looking for a fee in excess of €100 million for the young winger. Liverpool and Manchester United are also reportedly showing strong interest in the winger.
Paris Saint-Germain’s Bradley Barcola will reportedly be available this summer. He could become an option for Bayern. Meanwhile, Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford may also look for a new club since Barcelona have decided to sign Gordon. Rashford had a successful loan spell at Barcelona this season.
Missing out on their prime attacking targets doesn’t paint a good picture for Bayern chiefs. However, they managed to get a top player in Diaz after missing out on the likes of Florian Wirtz and Nico Williams. The Bavarian hopeful will hope for a similar outcome this summer.
