Former Premier League star attracting interest from Emirati club after Bayern Munich stint
Bayern Munich are expected to lose one senior defender in the summer as Eric Dier’s contract expires at the end of the season. The Bavarian club has no plans to offer a new deal to Dier despite making a positive impact since arriving from Tottenham Hotspur in the last winter transfer window.
Dier will have to consider offers from interested clubs during the second half of the season. He can negotiate with interested clubs in January regarding a summer deal. The former Spurs defender is also attracting interest from outside Europe.
According to TZ, Emirati club Al Jazira is interested in signing Dier on a free transfer at the end of the season. It remains to be seen if Dier would be open to leaving Europe at this stage of his career.
The 30-year-old defender has been subject to interest from three Premier League clubs. Considering his experience in England with Tottenham Hotspur, he will be a very handy signing for several Premier League clubs.
Dier has no plans to leave Bayern Munich in January
Juventus have reportedly shown interest in signing Dier during the winter transfer window. The Italian club wants to improve the defensive options for Thiago Motta. Dier reportedly ticks all the boxes when it comes to adding quality to their defense midway through the season.
However, TZ is reporting that Dier has no plans to leave Bayern in January. Despite starting only one game for Die Roten this season, the English defender wants to stay in Munich until the end of the season.
Dier started well for Bayern after arriving from Spurs 11 months ago. He formed a strong partnership with Matthijs de Ligt under Thomas Tuchel. Dier activated the option to extend his contract until 2025 by playing regularly for Bayern during the second half of last season.
De Ligt and Tuchel left Bayern in the summer. The arrival of Vincent Kompany changed the fortunes of Dier at Bayern. The Belgian coach made Kim Min-jae and Dayot Upamecano his first-choice center-backs. Bayern also signed Hiroki Ito from VfB Stuttgart in the summer, but the Japanese defender has not made his competitive debut for the club due to injuries. Dier is currently the third-choice option in central defense. Since Kompany hardly rotates in defense, the English defender had to be content with minutes from the bench.
Dier's teammates admire him for working hard in training and setting an example in the dressing room. It makes sense to keep him until the end of the season. Dier couldn’t win a trophy with Bayern last season. The English defender will look to end his time in Munich with a trophy before considering his next options.
