Alphonso Davies is in the final year of his contract at Bayern Munich. The Canadian has already been heavily linked with Spanish giants Real Madrid who want to sign the left-back for free in the upcoming summer. New reports from popular Spanish outlet Sport suggest that FC Barcelona is now planning to join the race for Davies.

Barcelona plotting a move for Davies

Davies' contract expires at the end of the 2024-25 season and so far Bayern and the player have not been able to agree on a contract extension. The negotiations between the two have been at an impasse for a long time as the final offer proposed by Bayern isn't fancied by the Canadian and his agent.

Reports from Sport indicate that there has been recent contact between La Liga side FC Barcelona and Davies' camp. The Canadian left-back has given positive feedback after initial contact. It is further reported that the move will require a significant financial package and while it will be difficult it's not ruled out if FC Barcelona makes it their top priority. The Blaugrana club knows very well that adding Davies to their squad would be impossible without returning to the 1-1 financial fair play rule and a sale might also be required to fund this operation.

Barcelona's head coach Hansi Flick is already familiar with Alphonso Davies from his time as coach of FC Bayern. Davies' breakout season came under Flick as they both ended up winning the historic Sextuple together.

Real Madrid remain interested in signing the left-back

It is no secret that the defending Spanish and European champions Real Madrid have been interested in signing Davies since last season. Despite this interest, Bayern didn't receive any official transfer proposal from Madrid for the full-back and thus they decided to continue with the player for the last 12 months of his contract. They risk losing him for free next season. Madrid will look to take advantage of this situation and sign the Canadian star for no fee, just like they did with Kylian Mbappe last summer.

Davies focused on the season with Bayern

As it stands right now Davies can begin talking to interested clubs from January 2025 and sign a pre-contract agreement for a permanent move in the summer. Amidst all the transfer speculations, the 23-year-old states that his full focus is on the present with Bayern. The Canadian has also expressed his enjoyment playing under new manager Vincent Kompany, but will it be enough to convince him to extend with Die Roten?
