Bayern Munich have been linked with multiple forwards this summer. It is partly due to the club’s failure to get prime targets and a serious injury to Jamal Musiala. The Bundesliga champions aim to strengthen their attack, having also parted ways with Leroy Sane and Thomas Müller this summer.
Christopher Nkunku has been one of the forwards linked with Bayern this summer. The French forward emerged as a winter transfer target for Die Roten. Nkunku was open to a move to Bavaria in January, but Chelsea’s transfer demands were too expensive for Bayern to explore a transfer.
According to The Athletic, newly crowned Club World Cup winners have slashed their price for Nkunku by £22 million. The London-based club wanted £65 million for Nkunku in January. They are ready to listen to offers worth £43 million in the next six weeks. With the additions of Joao Pedro and Liam Delap, Nkunku needs to leave Chelsea to get consistent game time during the World Cup year.
According to SportBild (via iMiaSanMia), Nkunku is keen on joining Bayern even if the move happens at the end of the transfer window. Pini Zahavi has been in touch with Bayern regarding a transfer.
Considering the need to raise funds from sales, Chelsea may further relax the transfer later in the transfer window. Manchester United have also been credited with interest in the former RB Leipzig forward.
Nkunku has struggled with injuries and form during his time at Chelsea. A move to the Bundesliga could be the ideal move for him to kickstart his career. He excelled for RB Leipzig for a few seasons before getting the big move to Chelsea.
Bayern will weigh up a move for Nkunku if other deals fail to materialize
Despite Nkunku’s willingness to join Bayern, he is not an active transfer target for the Bavarian club. The Bundesliga champions are focusing on signing Luis Diaz from Liverpool. A second bid is imminent as talks progress between both clubs. Diaz was not part of Liverpool’s squad for the pre-season friendly against AC Milan on Saturday.
The Colombian forward has already given the green signal to a move to Bavaria. Die Roten will look to get this deal over the line before the squad returns to the pre-season training at the end of July.
Apart from Diaz, Bayern are also keen on signing Nick Woltemade from VfB Stuttgart. However, talks with Stuttgart have stalled after two bids were rejected for the German forward. Woltemade has reported for pre-season training, but he remains keen on joining Die Roten. If a move for Woltemade doesn’t materialize, Nkunku could become an option for Bayern. As things stand, there is a significant chance of Nkunku playing football elsewhere than in Munich next season.
