Leroy Sane struggling to justify place in the starting XI
Vincent Kompany decided to go ahead with Leroy Sane on the right flank against Borussia Dortmund. The German winger was not at his best against PSG, which made a change in the attack plausible for Die Roten in Der Klassiker.
Sane started the game strongly, forcing a terrific save from Kobel in the eighth minute. However, his impact on the pitch faded as the game went on. The German winger managed to complete only one dribble out of four dribbles he attempted against Dortmund.
The 28-year-old forward was also too safe on the ball instead of providing the spark in the final third when Bayern desperately needed a goal. He lost more than half of the duels he was involved in the game, which suggests poor defensive work and putting the team in dangerous counter-attacking situations.
Sane’s last goal came against Mainz on October 30. He is yet to provide an assist for Bayern this season. As things stand, the 28-year-old winger is not doing enough to justify a place in the starting XI. It will not be a surprise if Kompany brings Leroy Sane out of the starting XI against Bayer Leverkusen in the midweek DFB Pokal clash.
